Full Moon Eclipse in Aquarius – The Star

Tarot card meaning, The Star tarot card, Aquarius, full moon, eclipse 2017

The internet is abuzz with talks of the August eclipses – starting with the Lunar eclipse in Aquarius on August 7th and the Solar Eclipse in Leo on the 21st.  Solar Eclipses are always paired with a Lunar Eclipse in the opposite sign, and these two eclipses create a portal or doorway for powerful transformation and change to occur.

These coming eclipses are mirror images of the eclipses we had in February (at that time the Lunar eclipse was in Leo, followed by a Solar Eclipse over China in the sign of Aquarius).  Think of what was going on for you in February of this year – there were likely some big drastic personal changes.  Personally, these changes and transitions may still be unfolding.  Worldwide, China’s relationship with the United States was big in the news – Trump had initially taken a hard stance against China but in February we saw him concede to the One China ruling as well as some other interesting interactions between Trump and Xi Jinping.

So on Monday we enter The Lion’s Gate (what astrologers are calling the August eclipses)- are you ready for some powerful change?

Wendy’s Tips For The Eclipse Season:

  • Be aware of your feelings and emotions – particularly around “darkness” or the shadow self.  The eclipses will illuminate the shadow self and bring things to the surface.  It is best to face these things head on, but with patience and compassion.  You have an opportunity here for deep healing and transmutation.
  • Be aware of others acting out of ego or fear.  Everyone will pretty much be feeling like their personal crisis is the most important thing going on – and they are right!  For each of us, our personal conflicts will hold some deep truths that need to be noticed and heard.  Give your friends and family space to express themselves.  Holding space for each other to work through pain or powerful revelations will be a really important part of the work done at this time.
  • Follow your heart!  The Aquarius/Leo energy pairing is all about mind vs heart.  Aquarius is more “thinking” while Leo is more “feeling” but both really want the same thing – fellowship and love.  The Aquarius lunar eclipse will highlight ways we can GIVE, while the Leo solar eclipse will highlight how we RECEIVE.  Finding balance between giving and receiving will help you access the changes and transformations of this eclipse season with grace.

Narrowing in on the Lunar Eclipse coming on Monday, let’s examine some of the energies surrounding an Aquarius Full Moon.

Aquarius, aquarius full moon, aquarius lunar eclipse 2017

Aquarius is the Visionary sign of the Zodiac.  Supported and fed by this sign are the energies of Humanitarians, Activism, Loyalty, Sociability, Friendships, and Unconventional ways of thinking, etc.  Aquarius is represented by the Tarot Card “The Star” – which is the ultimate card of hopefulness for a bright future.  The Star brings hope and inspiration after the destruction of The Tower card.  Rebuilding with a sense of serenity, spiritual contentment, compassion, and creativity.  For this eclipse, think about what gives you Hope.  What inspires you to give back to others?  In what ways are you healing and inspiring others and providing nourishment to your community in meaningful ways?

The Star Tarot Card Meaning

For some, the eclipse may bring up feelings of discontentment.  You may find yourself feeling more relateble to the reversed meanings of this card… lack of faith, lack of creativity, hopeless, bored, disconnected.  If this is the case, don’t worry!  It’s just the eclipse doing it’s work with Shadow!  Allow yourself to look at these feelings with honesty and without judgment – and ask yourself what needs to be changed or realigned in your life that will allow you to feel hopeful, connected, and creative again.  Spend some time journaling or meditating through this.  (These feelings may arrive before the eclipse and last for several days after.)  Better yet, Talk. To. Your. Friends!  Aquarius energy is fed and supported by community and friendship above all!  Below I have included 3 tarot spreads I found on Pinterest that would be perfect to use around this Lunar Eclipse.  If you don’t read tarot, or would simply like someone else to do a reading for you, feel free to contact me!  I’ll be offering all three of these readings on a Sliding Scale for the next week! hestiasmuse@gmail.com

Temperance and the Sagittarius Full Moon

Sagittarius, Temperance, Tarot Card Meaning, Saggitarius energy, sagittarius traits, sagittarius meditation

Taking Aim and Transmutation;
The Energy of the Moon in Sagittarius and Temperance

The Full Moon in Sagittarius quickly approaches.  With the Sun in Gemini – the sign that lies in opposition of Sagittarius.  At the time of the full moon we find a balance between the Sun and Moon – as the two opposite signs highlight each other and blend into a powerful energy.  This balancing and blending is one of the main lessons of Sagittarius, so it is a particularly strong theme with this Full Moon.

Gemini is the Mutable Air sign – intelligent and calculating, but impossible to pin down.  Sagittarius is the Mutable Fire sign – passionate and motivated but easily adapting to new situations.  Higher thought and the energy of ideas is transmuted through Sagittarius’ focus and drive, allowing us to take aim for the true goal of our heart.

The Tarot Card related to the Sign of Sagittarius is Temperance.  Within the imagery of this card are the themes of balance and blending.  Archangel Gabriel stands with one foot on the earth (physical realm) and one foot in the water (Spiritual Realm) while blending the Elixir of Life from two cups.  The Sun is rising and flowers blooming, a reminder that “Time Heals All Things” and sometimes time is one of the ingredients we need to blend to work our magic.

Tarot, tarot blog, Temperance, Major Arcana, Blog Prompts, Blog Hop, Link Party, Tarot Card Meaning

The Temperance card is one of Healing – but with a lesson that healing comes with dedication, faith, time, and using exactly the right ingredients – all in moderation.  Sagittarius, The Archer, has great focus and drive, but must apply this carefully!  One must learn a skill with patience, dedication, the right tools and the right teachers before they are a master.  The downfall of Sagittarius is rushing into battle unprepared, but if they can listen to the messages of Temperance – Moderation, Timing, Blending – then their success is assured!

Spend some time with the Temperance Card this Full Moon.  If you don’t have tarot cards, you can simply read about and think about the message of this card.  You can use the following questions as Journaling prompts or to meditate on.

  • Where in your life do you need to practice moderation?
  • What needs to be better balanced, simplified, or blended in your life?
  • What are you feeling hopeful and optimistic about?
  • How are you balancing, blending, or combining the resources you have?
  • What in your life needs healing?

For this Full Moon, think about your goals, and how you can use the lessons of Temperance to help you achieve those goals!  You can read more about this card here;

Death (Tarot) and The Scorpio Full Moon

The Full Moon in Scorpio is coming up on May 10th and this full moon will be a particularly intense time for doing some Shadow Work.  Shadow Work is the concept of taking a close look at the parts of ourselves that we don’t willingly show to others… or even like to admit to ourselves.  Scorpio energy is all about this Shadow aspect of the psyche, as well as the shadowy aspects of culture and life in general.  In Scorpio’s influence, we are drawn to the darker aspects of life – such as death, the occult, endings, and anything that is mysterious or unseen.

Death, Tarot Card, Tarot Card Meaning, Death Tarot Card Meaning, Scorpio
Death – Rider Waite Smith Tarot

The tarot card associated with Scorpio is Death, and the archetypes and symbolism of this card resonate with the Scorpio Energy that we’ll all touch in some way during this full moon.  To make the most of this Full Moon and the deep soul work that can be done here, let’s take a closer look at the meaning of this tarot card.

Key Words: Endings.  Transitions.  Elimination.  Fate.  Inevitable Forces.  Cycles.  Sweeping Change.  Transformation.  The need for Liberation.  Severance.

There are certain changes and transitions in life that cannot be avoided.  The most obvious of these is Death – no matter what we do to try to avoid it, death is inevitable for us all.  Death holds the greatest mystery of all, although we have many theories and ideas about what happens after death – there is no way of knowing until we experience it.  We all die alone – meaning that even if we are surrounded by loved ones, we alone pass over into whatever lies beyond, and no one living can travel that with us.  For these reasons, death is feared . . . if for no other reason than it is a great unknown, and humans tend to fear the unknown.
From what we know of death in this physical world we have ascertained a few key things: 1) it cannot be avoided, and 2) it is part of the great cycle.  As we observe the decay of corpses, we have found that this decaying matter still holds within it energy – that is transformed through the process of decay and eventually becomes something that is useful to new lifeforms.  This basic cycle of life was observed by our ancestors and thus death became also associated with the possibility for new life.
In our lives, there are many cycles and changes that occur that are death-like in their patterns and symbolism… and these changes are what the Death card of the Tarot is usually teaching us about.  Some things are inevitable, and no matter what we did we couldn’t have prevented these things from happening.  But, like death, we usually have to pick up the pieces and move on. Then we usually find that after this profound change we have something new that grows – a new attitude or belief that has grown in the wake of this catastrophe.  Or a new journey of some kind that we wouldn’t have been able to take if the previous one hadn’t ended.  These are the moments embodied in the Death card.

the tornado approaches Dorothy’s House in “The Wizard Of Oz”

If you have ever been caught up in the path of sweeping change, going through the unavoidable and have been left somehow changed after the fact, you have experienced the energy of Scorpio and the Death card.  Perhaps this Full Moon is bringing about the culmination of some of these changes.  Or perhaps this is the perfect time to finish the Soul Work that you have been avoiding or putting off.  Sometimes we have these Death-card like things happen, and we put off really completing the cycle as we cling to what is trying to shift away.  There is that fear of the unknown again…. and as scary as it might be to let go and step in to the unknown, this needs to happen.  Otherwise you just get stuck in the stagnant, stuck in the decay – and don’t let yourself move on to what comes after.  Yes, we have to go through the murky swampy bits first though.

Dorothy steps out of her house, into OZ for the first time. from “The Wizard Of Oz”

So, with this Full Moon there are a few things you can do to make sure you don’t get stuck in the murky mess of death, and can help this process move along.  Taking Action:  Ask yourself if you are concluding any unfinished business or bringing something to a close.  What do you need to do to end this chapter?  What do you need to do to eliminate the excess, or throw off old patterns that aren’t serving you anymore?  Do you need to cut ties to certain people, a job, or a goal that just isn’t working out?  How can you get back to the basics and the bare essentials in your life?  In what ways can you “start over”?  In some cases all you are really needing to do is accept your fate.  Accept that this is how things are now, and allow yourself space to grieve or feel the anger and loss, and then you’ll be able to begin to move on later.

You can explore all of this through thought and meditation, but I would encourage you to write things down.  Keep a journal of your thoughts and realizations, make lists of the things you need to DO and commit to doing them.  Work through your thoughts and feelings by writing them down.  Here are some journal prompts you can use to get started (or use the questions from the previous paragraph)

  • What am I feeling very intense feelings about right now?
  • What do I need to let go of?
  • What is my basic support system through a transition?
  • What is being transformed or changed?
  • What do I need to liberate myself from through the power of change?
  • What new growth will be possible through this transition?

Affirmation:  “I allow transformation and renewal in my life by letting go of all that no longer serves my growth.”

If you’re ready to show up and do the deep work that you need to do for your Soul’s growth, the Universe WILL show up to support you along the way!

Meditation With Taurus

The sun is in Taurus from April 20th to May 20th and whether you are an astrological Taurus or not, this can be a good time to explore Taurus energy within your life.

Taurus Energy Profile:
Polarity: Yin, Receptive
Element: Earth
Quality: Fixed
Ruling Planet: Venus (Beauty, Arts, Pleasure, Romance)
Astrological House: 2nd House (House of Money and Possessions)
Symbol: The Bull (strong, stubborn, protective, also gentle)

Affectionate, patient, stable, determined, practical, stubborn, resistant to change, sensuous, loyal, possessive, materialistic, preserving, established, reliable.

Ideas and Tools for your Taurus Meditation:
You may want to accentuate your Taurus Meditation with some of the following.  These can be placed on your meditation altar or around your bath tub if you are meditating in the bath.

Taurus, Venus, Astrology, Altar, Tarot Cards, meditation
my altar set up for meditation with Taurus and Venus
  • the beginnings of my Taurus Altar.
  • A journal and pen to write down your thoughts or experiences
  • Light Blue or Pale Green Candles
  • Image of a Bull or small figurine of a Bull
  • Image or figurine of the Goddess of Beauty, Venus
  • Flowers: Roses, Violet, Poppy, Honeysuckle or Apple Blossom
  • Incense or Essential oil of any of the above scents
  • The Major Arcana Tarot Cards of The Hierophant and The Empress
  • Gemstones: Emerald, Rose Quartz, Green Aventurine
  • This Taurus Bath Bomb if you are meditating in the Bath

For your meditation, you can simply relax and think about the energies of Taurus and how you relate to those energies.  Do you relate to any of the key words in the Taurus Energy Profile?  Do you need to be more like a Taurus in some areas of your life?  Or could you perhaps be less like a Taurus in some ways?
Think about and listen to the messages of The Hierophant and The Empress.  The Hierophant cherishes structures and institutions, and he’ll protect these if necessary. He asks us to recognize that life, knowledge, and society is preserved within certain structures or institutions, and he looks to the past and his elders for guidance.  The Hierophant also values money and the process of gaining and saving wealth.  The Empress on the other hand finds value in things that are beautiful, artistic, and sensual.  The Empress is guided by her senses and seeks out things which bring her pleasure.  (Taurus can tend to be self-indulgent and often deal with addictions, cravings, or emotional eating).  What do these two cards have to teach you?  How do these two cards interact with each other and change each other, if the aspects were melded into one?

The energy of Taurus always reminds me of the Cartoon, “Ferdinand The Bull”.  Taurus has that sensual vibe of venus, and would love to spend their day relaxing in the sun and smelling flowers.  They don’t really like change, and will resist changes in their life – especially if these changes result in less time for them to do what they really enjoy.  Taurus isn’t really violent or angry – they won’t instigate conflict (because that’s not relaxing and doesn’t feel good!)  However, if they are provoked, they will react!  And then the offender better watch out!  Because if you have disturbed the Bull’s harmony, family, partner, or feelings of security they will trample you.  (And then go right back to enjoying their nap in the sun, smelling the flowers)

Here are some questions you can ask yourself and Journal about as you explore the energy of Taurus.
Journal With The Hierophant:
What rule or law do you feel you have transgressed?  How are you holding yourself accountable? Or who around you do you feel has broken a law or rule, and how do you hold them accountable for that? What traditions are you upholding? Why? What traditions or institutions are you rebelling against, and why?  What are you learning or what would you like to learn more about?
Journal with The Empress:
How are you indulging your senses?  Are you over-indulging or becoming dependent on something that feels good?  Do you need to pamper yourself or indulge your senses a bit more?  Who is inspiring or nurturing you?  Are you inspiring and nurturing others?  What creative projects are you working on?

Moon Journey With Tarot – Aries 3/27 – 4/25

We’re coming up on the New Moon in Aries on March 27th/28th and I wanted to share a look at this upcoming moon cycle.  Astrologically, the solar year begins when the sun enters Aries, the first sign of the zodiac.  The sun entering the New Year is the first day of the Vedic New Year as well. (This year the sun entered Aries on March 21 and it will soon be followed by the New Moon in Aries on March 28th.
As the earth awakens from her long winter slumber, now is a time for new beginnings.  Did your new year’s resolutions in January quickly fade away?  Now is a time to re-evaluate those goals and start anew.  You can look back on what didn’t work, and then breathe new life into those goals, or reframe them in a more suitable way.  Then get ready to breathe new life into those goals on the New Moon of April 26th!

When the Moon is in Aries, it is a great time for magic or rituals concerning matters of the self and your personality, beginnings of things and personal empowerment.  In the Tarot, Aries is embodied by The Emperor, who is a commanding authority figure with great confidence and wisdom.  The New Moon in Aries is an opportunity for us to connect with our own self-mastery or find ways to take control and be a leader of our own destiny.  The Emperor reflected in this New Moon can teach us to be Rulers of our own life; taking responsibility for our actions, being assertive when needed, and leading by example.

You can meditate or journal with this card or on archetypes of Aries to see what parts of your life you need to step into your power – or what areas you perhaps need to relinquish some power (A good Emperor knows he cannot control everything and everyone, but allows individual freedoms within his kingdom and delegates tasks or jobs to others).  Your intentions for this New Moon should be centered around ways you can find your own courage and strength to take charge of your life in new ways and access your inner fiery Mars energy.

Moving forward with the Waxing Moon, we find the First Quarter Moon in Cancer around April 3rd.  As the moon builds and grows more each night on it’s way to the full moon, our intentions from the New Moon are moving forward along with it.  At the First Quarter Moon we hit a sort of waystation between New Moon and Full Moon.  Here we find some balance as Cancer brings her watery and feminine energy in to temper some of that Aries fire.  Moon in Cancer is a good time to focus on matters of family, home life, and maternity issues such as fertility, nurturing, creativity and fertility.

The tarot card related to Cancer is The Chariot – which interestingly has a lot of Mars type energy in it too in the sense of determination, drive, and motivation.  Our chariot driver may be a warrior, but he is driven more by his emotions and instincts – rather than the hard control of the Aries Emperor.  At this time it is beneficial to ask yourself how you feel about the direction you are going, and let your creative and intuitive aspects take the reigns from here to the Full Moon.  You still have your goal and intention set at the New Moon, but now rather than pushing for this goal with strength and courage, you can more easily “go with the flow”.  Step out of your own way, and trust in the process – remembering that the journey is just as important as the destination.

April 10th brings the Full Moon in Libra- the astrological opposition of Aries.  While Aries is about Personal power and individuality, Libra is all about Partnerships and matters that involve other people.  Agreements we have made with others come under scrutiny as the light of the moon is shined down upon them, particularly highlighting places that lack balance or justice.  Your intentions from the New Moon will be manifesting here at the New Moon if you have worked on them and taken actions to bring them to fruition.  However, the Libra Full Moon will point out any imbalance in the power structure you have created, and urges you to make sure that your goals didn’t just benefit YOU – but also the whole and the greater good.  Libra is personified in the Tarot with the Justice card, who weighs the scales.  If you feel you have been knocked off your horse during this full moon, take some time to honestly look at your goals and the journey from the New Moon to the Full Moon.  If you stepped on anyone or upset the balance along your way, now is the time to right those wrongs.  Continue with your intentions and goals of the New Moon, integrating the lessons of Libra and Justice to bring about a more sound and sustainable outcome.

As the moon wanes and approaches darkness, it is a time of letting go of that which no longer serves us.  What have you learned in this moon cycle so far?  Manifesting isn’t just about attracting good into our life, but also letting go of the old in order to make room for the new.  On April 19th we encounter the waystation of the 4th quarter moon in Capricorn.  Earthy, wise Capricorn brings a big dose of practicality to the picture.  Think back to New Year and the resolutions we made at that time (The New Moon was in Capricorn just before January 1st).  What happened to those resolutions?  At this time with the Waning moon we can look at what has held us back and take steps to release those habits or attitudes that don’t serve us.  The moon in Capricorn particularly highlights aspects of life involving work or career, work ethic, and status.  Who or what is supporting us in our journey?  What can we do to prop up or give a signal boost to those things or people who help us?  What or who is holding us back, tripping us up, or causing us to lose our focus on the end goal?  What can we do to eliminate those from our life?  The World really is at our fingertips, and we need careful discernment and deliberation to decide exactly what we need and what we don’t need.  The lessons of The Emperor, The Chariot, and Justice can help us in this discernment process.

Finally, April 24th and 25th, we come full circle.  The Dark Moon (final stage of waning moon before the New Moon) is in Aries again.  Here we can encounter the shadow aspects of The Emperor.  What have we learned about power, control, and strength that made us uncomfortable?  Do we feel that we were successful in manifesting our goal at the New Moon?  Did you access your own inner Emperor, that Fiery Mars persona within you?  Did you find aspects of your life that needed this energy?  Did you find aspects of your life that resisted this energy, or needed balance and less control?  These are all things to consider as your meditate or journal through the Dark Moon.  Another New Moon is approaching and you will set a new goal – this new goal will be shaped by what you learned during this journey as well as the astrological influences of that coming cycle.

I hope you revisit this post often through this coming Cycle, and I look forward to hearing back from you as you process and experience this in your own way! If you want to really get in touch with Aries and Mars energy, I made these ARIES Astrological Bath Bombs!  They are reddish in color, like Mars.  The scent of Geranium Essential oil is both relaxing and mood lifting, promoting courage and vitality.  (Geranium are red flowers associated with Aries and Mars.  Inside of each bath bomb is a Carnelian gemstone which can be added to your altar or carried in your pocket to promote courage, self confidence, and vitality.  ORDER HERE.

Full Moon In Cancer and The Chariot

In the early morning hours of January 12th, the moon will reach it’s fullest in the sign of Cancer.  Astrologically, Cancer is a sign of heightened emotion, motherhood, nurturing, and intuition.  Cancer loves deeply and fully, but has also learned to protect itself with a shell or a shield like a crab  because of unfortunate past pains.  This Full Moon might bring some of those past emotional pains to the surface again – this is not a curse but an opportunity for healing!

Two weeks ago we set our intentions with the New Moon in Capricorn occurring right before New Year’s Day.  We probably felt very optimistic and had big dreams for this new year in terms of our personal goals.  This is great, don’t lose sight of those!  There may have been some frustration through those first days of 2017, as we were in the middle of a Mercury Retrograde cycle which may have caused some delays.  The good news is, Mercury is now Direct again and we can really start doing the work that our goals require.

However, at the Full Moon we encounter the polar opposite in energy from what we felt at the New Moon.  Capricorn is external and does it’s work outwardly and physically, seeking recognition from peers and society.  Cancer energy is all internal, and much more private.  Here, our Capricorn New Moon goals meet the one thing that really can hold us back – US.  Our feelings, fears, and pain.  Not that Cancer is all negative energy…. it’s just that water holds memory and vibrates with whatever experiences it has held.  So the goals we set in that optimistic Capricorn New Moon come face to face with these parts of ourselves that can either lift us up, or hold us back – usually a blend of both.

The Tarot Card that is associated with the Astrological sign of Cancer is The Chariot.  In the traditional Rider Waite imagery of this card we see a chariot driver, in armor (much like that crab in it’s shell) with water flowing behind him.  The intuitive and compassionate energy of water is the driving force, and has certainly shaped this charioteer’s perspective.  Pulling the chariot are two sphynx.  One is black, and one is white.  There is a very Ying and Yang element here between these two forces that could be seen as opposing.  Yet here they are working together… just as I mentioned above that these experiences and emotions we have are both strengths and weaknesses.  The Chariot Driver has embraced both the light and dark parts of his psyche and uses them both equally in plotting his course.  Cancer is ruled by the moon, which also has these extremes of dark and light (New and Full phases) which equally have different things to teach us.  The Chariot Driver has crescent moons engraved in the shoulders of his armor.

Another thing that stands out about this card – the Chariot isn’t actually going anywhere.  This may seem counterproductive to some types who wish to always be moving forward (and it is certainly an opposite energy of Capricorn’s drive to be continually moving to the top)  Here is the true message of this card and this Full Moon:  Pause.  Feel.  Plan.  Integrate.

Yes, I know we’re chomping at the bit and ready to just move forward already!  But there may be an important lesson right now, some tidbit of information about ourselves that we must face, embrace, integrate or discard before we truly start our journey.  It’s that moment when we double check that we have everything packed before a trip.  We suddenly remember something else that will be useful… but the bags are already packed full.  So now we pause, take a deep breath, and begin to look through the bags again.  Can something else be taken out so that we can fit this other thing? Is there a way to pack more efficiently so we have room for all of it?  Is there something else we might have overlooked?

The Chariot doesn’t ask us to give up on our dream (Cancer is quite tenacious and doesn’t easily let go of a dream or ideal) but simply to make sure we are recognizing all the energies within us and available to us and using them equally and efficiently.  That past emotional pain that comes bubbling up?  It holds a lesson within in it.  That part of ourselves that we find annoying or useless?  It holds a hidden strength.  Integrate.
And if you find that there is a pain or a trait that isn’t useful anymore?  You can work on letting it go… the Charioteer has no room for excess baggage.

You can meditate on the lessons of Cancer and the Chariot over the next few days.  Journal, cry, process.  Listen to music that engages you on an emotional and spiritual level.  This is part of unpacking and re-packing that luggage so you’ll be ready for the next part of your journey.

Full Moon Blessings to you and Blessed Be!  I would be happy to help you through this process with a Tarot card reading.  This Full Moon Reading would be perfect for examining the energies available to you right now.  Or this Body, Mind, and Spirit reading could help you unpack and repack those suitcases for the next leg of your journey.  You could also contact me about a Reiki Healing session which could also help you integrate these energies and different aspects of yourself or heal emotional pains while balancing the chakras.

New Moon In Capricorn and our New Year’s Resolutions

New Moon Blessings!  The moon entered it’s New phase around 1:00 am Thursday morning, in the sign of Capricorn.  I made this graphic to show some highlights of the Moon Cycle we just entered.

Time for dreaming and planning! Dream Big! This New Moon is a good one for your dreams & intentions for the whole year. Especially with things regarding your personal growth and pushing yourself to be your very best. You know that feeling of being motivated to change or better yourself that happens around New Year every year? It is largely from the Capricorn new Moon that happens right around our calendar new year.

Capricorn energy is all about self improvement – pushing yourself to do better, achieve more, and improve your status in life.  Go ahead and dream big and set those lofty goals for the New Year!  Capricorn lets you see your ultimate potential.  However, it is good the remember the Capricorn method of achievement is not one of instant gratification.  “Slow and steady wins the race” seems like a very Capricornian phrase.  Build on your goals and habits slowly.  Perhaps think in terms of what small changes you can make, and then work on adding one small change or habit every couple of weeks.  Give yourself time to solidify one habit before jumping into the next. Saturn is the ruler of Capricorn and is known as the great tester or the lord of Karma, so don’t expect these goals to go unchallenged!  Capricorn’s lesson is often about flexibility and adaptability.  If one method isn’t working, ditch it and try a new approach.  If one habit isn’t sticking, change that up too.

January is named after the Roman God Janus, who is guardian of doorways. He has two faces – one looking back to the past, and one looking forward to the future. As we pass thru the door from one year to the next, we look back with a degree of honesty about what didn’t work. And look forward and see potential within ourselves and want to push ourselves to be our very best. (a very Capricorn mode of thinking)

But to use the adage “Rome wasn’t built in a day” it is good to remember as we set goals that positive changes that stick are made slowly and gradually with great care.
Mercury is still retrograde, but will go direct again a few days before the full moon. That will be the perfect time to begin making changes or starting new things that relate to your goals.  From now until the January 9th, focus on pinning down exactly what your goals are.  Create some positive affirmations or a sankalpa to repeat daily to help you feel good about your goal.  You may even want to create a Vision Board or Dream Board… it’s up to you.

Write down your goals and then write down a list of the small changes you can make to acheive this goal.  Don’t try to jump in fully and make all these changes at once!  Just pick a starting point and be ready for it once Mercury goes direct!  Meanwhile your positive thinking and dreaming is planting the seeds during the new moon.

I found this great graphic at Energy Muse showing how to follow your intention and goal setting process through the moon phase… starting at the new moon and ending at the dark moon (and then repeating again.

Best Wishes for a lovely Moon Cylce and a Happy New Year!

Students of my Usui Reiki online courses will notice that I share astrology articles frequently, as well as creating events that remind everyone of upcoming moon phases (Full Moon, New Moon, Eclipses, etc.) I will also share info on the solstices and equinoxes as those come up.

People who know me personally won’t find this odd and probably just assume that I am sharing a secondary passion in my Reiki Class. Actually, though - since practicing energy work and reiki healing, my understanding of the energies of these natural cycles has deepened and expanded.
“Reiki” means “Life Force Energy” or “Universal Life Force Energy” (from Rei, meaning ALL and Ki meaning ENERGY) and as we connect with this energy we begin a journey of connecting with all of life. As the Reiki practitioner begins to connect with All of Life on a daily basis, of course these energies of seasonal changes, moon phases, and planetary alignments become more relevant!
Paying attention to the astrological happenings and moon phases can help you on your Reiki journey in many ways. You’ll have a deeper understanding of what kinds of energies are moving through the universe - which includes your own body and the bodies of your clients or friends. The Moon is in Aries? That can explain the vibrant, fiery and combative energy you find exploding like a bomb from your client’s Solar Plexus! Move that energy upward into the Heart and Upper chakras so it can be expressed, or move it down into the lower chakras for some grounding and cooling off. Venus is retrograde? No wonder you keep coming across blockages in client’s heart chakras and complaints of feeling that their relationships are all going bad! Send some extra healing to the heart chakra, as well as sending some loving healing to the other chakras to help them feel more at ease and refocus away from relationships into areas of life that can be more fulfilling at this time.
Even in work on yourself you will notice your body, mind, and spirit going through some cycles and patterns that relate to moon phases, seasons, and other astrological occurrences. I was easily meditating for 40 to 60 minutes a day…. 20 or more minutes every morning and evening - plus other random intervals. Then, Mercury went retrograde while the moon was also entering the waning phase. Suddenly, I was struggling to meditate even 10 minutes a day! Since I was paying attention to astrology and the moon phases, this didn’t surprise me - therefore I wasn’t hard on myself about it. Instead of feeling frustrated with my sudden change in how I felt during meditation, I just focused on allowing my thoughts to take me where they would. In this way, as I followed the thoughts I was able to see exactly what the retrograde was urging me to work on in myself and my outer life. I also saw in my thoughts the things I need to work on releasing and letting go of, simply by sitting on my meditation cushion and not forcing a meditation but just following my thoughts and feelings. Sure, my time on the cushion is shorter and feels less rewarding right now, but I have learned a lot and refocused my attention to other aspects of my life rather than worrying that I was “failing” after I had been doing so well.
Whatever your path or spiritual beliefs, and whatever form of energy work or healing you practice, we can all learn from the cycles, patterns, and shifts in energy that occur on astroogical levels and with the phases and signs of the moon. After all, we’re all one - residing on this same rock hurtling through the cosmos together. If you are studying Reiki and come across an article on the upcoming New Moon, or “Astrology This Week”, why not check it out? Reiki and astrology go hand in hand. And this can work the other way around too! If you are a student of astrology or a person who follows the phases of the moon and the seasons - why not check out Reiki? Energy healing can help you get through some of those rougher transitions, compliment the opening and expansion that occurs during positive aspects, and help you connect more fully with yourself as a part of this Divine Universe.

Centaurs ~ Fire Elementals ~ Sagittarius

We have the full moon in Sagittarius coming up on Saturday May 21. With the full moon in a Fire Sign I felt like it would be a good time to connect with Fire Elementals, and specifically the Centaur.  Most people wouldn’t instantly think of Centaurs as Fire Elementals – so let’s examine Sagittarius energy traits alongside the personality traits of Centaurs and you’ll see why I feel like they are definitely Fire Elementals!!

Temperance from The Celestial Tarot

SAGITTARIUS
Sagittarius is the masculine, mutable fire sign of the zodiac: energetic, ambitious, generous spirits who love and value freedom, enjoy challenges and intellectual pursuits. Ruled by Jupiter – the planet of expansion, higher education, growth and travel. Sagittarians are generally open to new ideas, exploration and seeking knowledge. Sagittarius energy is active, ambitious, passionate and sexual – embodying the element of Fire.  Positive traits are: optimistic, outgoing, expansive, ethical, freedom loving, exploratory, and honest or being straight forward. Negative traits can include: domineering or controlling, opinionated, judgemental, blunt, competitive, and overindulgent.  Sagittarius’ fiery passion combined with a strong intellect and quest for knowledge creates an energy signature that is constantly seeking balance between wisdom and instinct. They will fight when necessary (and even be overly aggressive if their goal is slipping away from them) but in turn they can also be that intellectual and spiritually wise person you know.
This balance between competive instinct and rational intellect is evident in the stories and legends of Centaurs.

CENTAURS
Centaurs are half man, half horse, representing the marriage of animal instinct and strength with human intellect and wisdom. (Some may say that the horse aspect is what represents their kind, gentle, and wise nature while it is their human side that brings in the aggressive nature. Food for thought). In Greek mythology, Centaurs were a wild and unruly lot; who liked to drink and fight, what we would call today a “macho man”. They have a lot of passion, a strong sexual energy, and are certainly interested in conquest of all kinds. (Look out ladies, the Centaur will probably flirt with you and try to show off his strength to get your attention!) Can you begin to see why they are Fire Elementals?!?
However, legends also revere Centaurs as great teachers, healers, and guardians – so they’ve got that Sagittarian balance between instinct and intellect. On the Illustration of the Centaur card from the ” Mythical Creatures Oracle“, Sky Cybele has depicted the Centaur holding both a club and a scroll – symbolically the Sword and the Pen. She says if you were to ask a Centaur, “Which is mightier, the pen or the sword?” Centaur wouldn’t know the answer as he sees them both as equally powerful and necessary. (Pictured below)
If you choose to work with Centaurs, you can ask them to help you achieve balance between instinct and intellect. There are times when energy, action, and assertiveness is necessary – and times when those traits are certainly not appropriate! Alternatively, there are times intellect, wisdom, and learning are necessary – and times when instinct and gut feelings are better than “book smarts”. Centaurs love to teach and guide others, and can help you know when it is best to be seeking the route of wisdom and learning, or when it is best to be active and assertive or follow your passions.

CHIRON
It is also important to know about the King of the Centaurs – Chiron.  Chiron was known as a very wise leader and teacher – perhaps not as prone to aggression as his fellow Centaurs. Son of the Titan God; Saturn, and pupil of the God Apollo, Chiron was friend and confidant to both Gods and Men. (Again, a strong connection of balance between the Higher Realm of consciousness and the Lower Realm of physicality) The Gods taught Chiron about hunting, medicine, music, and prophecy – and in turn Chiron taught these things to men. Among Chiron’s famous pupils were Hercules, Achilles, Jason, and the twins Castor & Pollux.
Here is the story of Chiron’s injury and how he became a constellation. Some say he was hunting a wild boar with Hercules, others say he was with Hercules (his friend) when a battle broke out among some other Centaurs. Either way, he was accidentally struck on the leg by Hercules’ poisoned sword. Since Chiron was immortal this wound did not kill him, but the poison made the wound very painful and impossible to heal.  Chiron’s suffering was great, and he set himself to the task of searching for a cure – or to find a way to die to escape his suffering. Hercules went on a quest to help his friend find a way to die, while Chiron studied medicine and healing. During this time, Chiron discovered many cures and healing practices (none of which cured him) and he passed those cures and the healing wisdom on to others…. So here we see Chiron as the archetype of the Wounded Healer – a powerful archetype for healers to work with, especially those who are chronically I’ll or disabled and yet drawn to the path of healing others.
Hercules, on his journey found the suffering Prometheus who was chained forever to a rock where an eaghle tore at his eyes, kidneys, and liver every day. Jupiter had cursed Prometheus to suffer until someone of their free will offered to take his place. Hercules told Chiron of Prometheus. Chiron was already suffering in anguish every day, and had all but given up on his search for a cure, so he agreed to take Prometheus’ place. Thus, Prometheus was freed from his curse. For his sacrifice, Chiron was awarded by the Gods and allowed to die – Thus relieving his suffering at last too. Jupiter further awarded Chiron by placing him among the stars –  as the constellation now known as Sagittarius.
Within Chiron’s story we find the traits of a great healer, a teacher, and a compassionate, self a sacrificing, and loyal friend. This is Sagittarius energy in it’s most balanced and enlightened form – one who has mastered the competitive and macho energy of fire and masculinity, and transmuted it into generosity, ethical asmbition, and knowledge seeking not just for the self but for the greater good of all.

TEMPERANCE
In the Tarot, Sagittarius is embodied in the Major Arcana card Temperance. Key words for this card are: Blending, Balance, Timing, Discipline, Self-Control, Compromise, Moderation, Alchemy, Healing, Distillation, and Flexibility. You can see how the meaning of the Temperance card relates to the story of Centaurs, Chiron, and Sagittarius energy. You can meditate on this card or journal with it to help you connect with Centaur and Sagittarius energy. Also, if this card comes up for you in a reading, perhaps it is a sign that the Fire Elementals Centaurs are near and want to work with you to teach you moderation and balance.

Working with Centaurs as Spirit Guides
You can connect with these powerful fire elementals any time you want to. Make sure you ground and center yourself, and set up protections – though Centaurs aren’t malevolent or mean spirited, they can be strong-willed and they like to play rough. You can call on Archangel Michael for protection, as well as setting clear boundaries about what you will and will not allow (this is a good idea for working with any of the elementals and fairies) You do this by simply and clearly stating your intention at the beginning of your ritual or meditation. One way to invoke a Centaur is to have a fire (in a safe fire pit in your back yard or campground), play some upbeat music or drum beats, and leave an offering of wine or alcohol (the centaurs enjoy drinking) and invite the Centaurs to join you while you meditate on their lessons. You can set up an altar – this can be placed near the outdoor fire, or indoors to be used if you can’t have a fire outdoors – as a place to honor them, work with them, and meditate with them.  Some suggestions for your altar: candles for the fire element, a picture or small figurine of a centaur, an image of the constellation Sagittarius, pictures or figurines of horses, a book and pen to represent wisdom & learning, a knife or sword, or bow and arrow (or small figurines or pictures of these) to represent their battle skills and hunting abilities, the tarot card Temperance, and symbols or representations of health, healing, and medicine.
You can meditate at this asltar to meet your Centaur guide, or ask for their assistance in your life. The centaurs can help you in manifesting a dream to go to school or get a scholarship, or to help you study and get good grades in school. They can help you manifest a good doctor or help you in finding a healer, energy worker, or medical practitioner to help you with healing. They can help you attain your goal of becoming a healer and assist you in your healings of yourself and others. And most of all, Centaurs can help you find balance, be more assertive, bring passion to your sex life, and help you in challenges and competitions.
