For your meditation, you can simply relax and think about the energies of Taurus and how you relate to those energies.  Do you relate to any of the key words in the Taurus Energy Profile?  Do you need to be more like a Taurus in some areas of your life?  Or could you perhaps be less like a Taurus in some ways?
Think about and listen to the messages of The Hierophant and The Empress.  The Hierophant cherishes structures and institutions, and he’ll protect these if necessary. He asks us to recognize that life, knowledge, and society is preserved within certain structures or institutions, and he looks to the past and his elders for guidance.  The Hierophant also values money and the process of gaining and saving wealth.  The Empress on the other hand finds value in things that are beautiful, artistic, and sensual.  The Empress is guided by her senses and seeks out things which bring her pleasure.  (Taurus can tend to be self-indulgent and often deal with addictions, cravings, or emotional eating).  What do these two cards have to teach you?  How do these two cards interact with each other and change each other, if the aspects were melded into one?

The energy of Taurus always reminds me of the Cartoon, “Ferdinand The Bull”.  Taurus has that sensual vibe of venus, and would love to spend their day relaxing in the sun and smelling flowers.  They don’t really like change, and will resist changes in their life – especially if these changes result in less time for them to do what they really enjoy.  Taurus isn’t really violent or angry – they won’t instigate conflict (because that’s not relaxing and doesn’t feel good!)  However, if they are provoked, they will react!  And then the offender better watch out!  Because if you have disturbed the Bull’s harmony, family, partner, or feelings of security they will trample you.  (And then go right back to enjoying their nap in the sun, smelling the flowers)

Here are some questions you can ask yourself and Journal about as you explore the energy of Taurus.
Journal With The Hierophant:
What rule or law do you feel you have transgressed?  How are you holding yourself accountable? Or who around you do you feel has broken a law or rule, and how do you hold them accountable for that? What traditions are you upholding? Why? What traditions or institutions are you rebelling against, and why?  What are you learning or what would you like to learn more about?
Journal with The Empress:
How are you indulging your senses?  Are you over-indulging or becoming dependent on something that feels good?  Do you need to pamper yourself or indulge your senses a bit more?  Who is inspiring or nurturing you?  Are you inspiring and nurturing others?  What creative projects are you working on?

Intensive Study Hall with the Planetary Retrogrades

I know that some people are looking forward to the end of Mercury Retrograde, and also feeling a bit apprehensive about the other planetary retrogrades we have going on right now.

Jupiter went retrograde on Feb 6th and will go direct again on June 9th.
Mercury went retrograde April 9th and goes direct on May 3.
Saturn joined went retrograde on April 16th and will go direct again on August 25th.
And Pluto joined the Retrograde party on April 20th and will stay that way until September 28th.

This can all seem like a great cosmic traffic jam at times, but don’t panic!

“Sorry About The Inconvenience” – Hitchiker’s Guide To The Galaxy by Douglas Adams

Retrogrades provide us with an excellent time to slow down and dig a little deeper into our lives, rooting out the sources of problems, fears, or setbacks.  Each planet has lessons for us, and the Retrograde brings a magnifying glass to each planet’s lesson while simultaneously slowing down the progress within that lesson.  If life is a school and the planets are our teachers, a retrograde may be like getting an extra hour of study hall with that teacher (planet) to really help us zero in on our failings or issues within that class.  If we pay attention and make the most of that extra time, we should be able to improve our understanding of that class, bring up our grade, and develop a better relationship with that teacher.  So right now we’ve got FOUR different teachers pulling us into study hall for some extra work.  Retrogrades are also a time we can focus on Shadow Work – going within and examining the parts of ourselves that we repress, fear, and hide away.

Study Hall With Mercury

LEAN ON ME, Karen Malina White, Morgan Freeman, 1989, (c)Warner Bros.

Mercury is the most famous, as this planet goes retrograde three times a year.  The Inner planets (closer to the sun) have more affect on our day to day lives so the energy of a Mercury retrograde is strongly noticed.  As the planet of communication, day to day travel, and information, this retrograde has a bad rap for retrogrades resulting in computer problems, car or transportation problems, or missing important details.  As a teacher, Mercury’s lessons are about finding our voice, self expression, communicating clearly, planning efficiently for our travels and tasks, and activating our Throat chakra.  Professor Mercury may be bringing you in for extra lessons during this time to help you with one or all of these important life skills.  It’s a one on one class where you are being asked to do some shadow work and look at why you are struggling in these areas.  Why are you afraid of speaking your truth?  Why are you consistently late to events?  Why do you feel you are not a good public speaker or teacher to others?  Why are you always putting off following up with your clients, procrastinating with your paperwork, and generally lacking organization skills? Mercury wants to know why you don’t have your shit together, and will point out the ways you are self-sabotaging your own life. (these are just some examples of what Professor Mercury might be asking you in Study Hall, and he wants a thoughtful and honest answer.

Study Hall with Jupiter

Robin Williams in the movie “Dead Poets Society”

Jupiter is the planet of Luck, Expansion, and Growth, dealing with our biggest ambitions and goals. Always pushing the boundaries, Jupiter is like the Teacher that has some fun in the classroom, or takes the class out of the classroom to learn in a different environment.  They don’t always stick to the lesson plan, but encourage students to think big, express individuality, and challenge the norms of society.  Your Study Hall with Professor Jupiter is a time when they are asking you why you aren’t successful in your projects right now?  When you started this project it seemed great, you were inspired and motivated, so what happened?  Something obviously isn’t working because you used to love this class but now you dread it.  So with Jupiter Study Hall we’re gonna look at what isn’t working anymore, and see if there is a totally new and different way we can go about achieving our goal.  This might not mean scrapping the whole project and starting over, but you need to look at it again with fresh eyes and a new perspective.  Jupiter is one of those teachers that might ask you to stand on your desk, stand on your head, or take a jog around campus to get your creative juices flowing.  They’re gonna try to mix things up a bit to get your attention and get you engaged again.  This might not always be fun, and sometimes it will be messy, but the Shadow work with Jupiter Retrograde should leave you more focused and more excited about your dreams and life goals.

Study Hall With Saturn

Allen Rickman as Severus Snape in Harry Potter

Yeah, Saturn is already known as “The Great Teacher”, and also “The Great Tester” and the Lord of Karma.  Study hall with Saturn can feel a bit more like detention at times.  Saturn’s lesson’s are about taking responsibility for the choices we have made, and learning life’s deepest lessons that we are here to learn.  There is some real important shadow work to be done here in terms of taking a close look at what we naturally avoid and the lessons held within.  With Saturn in retrograde, we may feel like we have already learned this lesson before.  “I did this already.  I turned it in last month”, you say.  “DO IT AGAIN” is Saturn’s stern reply.  Why are we facing the same road blocks, doubts, or fears again?  Why does it seem like this particular problem keeps coming up in our relationships, our job, or our psyche?  Because we haven’t truly finished with the lesson yet.  We may have solved the circumstances surrounding the problem in the past, but we didn’t finish doing the deeper work.  This is the work that actually shifts how we see ourselves and the world – and how we interact with the world changes once that shift is made.  Only then are we truly free of this repeating pattern of obstacles.  Saturn in Retrograde is urging this shadow work to happen now.  As frustrated and resistant as you may feel – keep in mind the Professor Saturn really has our best interest in mind as he pushes us through the dark corridor.

Study Hall With Pluto

Master Yoda – Star Wars

Ahh, yes, the very old, very diminutive teacher that is Pluto.  Speaking in riddles of the great mysteries of the intangible and spiritual realm, Pluto must be the Professor of Occult Mysteries and Ancient Spiritual teachings.  The far outer planets tend to teach us at a global level rather than a personal level, and Pluto’s movements through the cosmos will very much affect global attitudes and trends.  Pluto in retrograde causes some deep subconscious shifts that can transform us to new levels of power.  I chose the photograph of Yoda for this concept because as Luke finds himself in a murky underground bog learning the ways of The Force from Master Yoda this is a perfect metaphor for a Study Hall session with Pluto.  The skills and changes we learn here transform us, and we must face some fears along the way.  Meanwhile, the Empire seems to be getting more evil and more oppressive every day, and we may wonder what we are doing stuck here in this swamp with our meditation teacher when we should be out there doing something.  Pluto in Retrograde will give us all an opportunity to unlearn something we have learned – to let go of a belief or idea that is simply a construct which has held us back.  Once we complete this process, we can transcend the fears that society has taught us, and go back out into the world – now better able to be the teacher, guide, healer, light worker, or warrior that we are meant to be.

So are you ready to do some Shadow work with the teachers Mercury, Jupiter, Saturn, and Pluto?  I recommend A LOT of journaling, meditation, yoga, and self care over the next few months!  Write it out, dance it out, and follow up with bubble baths and tea.  Get out in nature as often as you can, with a pen and notebook.  Reiki can help greatly during this time, to help clear the energy meridians and chakras to make sure that you are really able to absorb and process the lessons of the great Cosmic Teachers.  Click here to learn more about the Reiki Healing sessions I offer (locally or distance sessions).  A Tarot or Oracle Card reading could also help you identify some of these lessons and how they are manifesting in your life, or some specific advice to help you make the most of your Study Hall!

The Perfect Lavender Bedtime Routine!

Oh lovely Lavender!  Lavender flowers and essential oils have so many benefits and are certainly among my favorite plant.  It is widely recognized as a relaxing and calming scent and recommended often as aromatherapy treatment for anxiety and insomnia.  (With scientific based studies backing up the claim that it helps slow the heart rate and promote better sleep)  For sleep, improved mood, and decreased anxiety or nervous tension, Lavender has been proven to significantly promote relaxation of the parasympathetic nervous system, reduce heart rate, reduce pain levels, and improve cognitive function.

There are other perhaps less well known benefits to lavender as well.  It has also shown to be beneficial to the skin as it has anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties which can help soothe, protect, and heal the skin and even help treat and prevent acne.  Lavender can help improve digestion, restore hormonal imbalances, improve urinary tract function, reduce muscle pain, and it is even a natural bug repellent! (Read this article for more details.)

I love nothing more than Lavender aromatherapy before bed time to help me wind down and prepare for sleep.  I thought I would share with you the “Ultimate” Lavender Bedtime experience that you can have at home!  (This would be my ideal Lavender Pampering Routine, though I may not do all the steps included here all the time, so pick and choose what you’d like to try!)

I would begin by putting some lavender essential oil in a diffuser in my bedroom (or light some lavender incense) so that my bedroom will smell nice and lavender-y when I am done with my bath or shower.  Jade Bloom has a fantastic Lavender essential oil.  A couple drops on your pillow case are a nice touch as well (or add a few drops of lavender oil to a spray bottle of water and lightly mist your sheets and pillow).

Grab your favorite clean pair of pajamas, you can even spray a light mist of water with lavender oil onto your pj’s to have them smelling nice too.  (Pro Tip – Put a couple drops of lavender essential oil on a clean sock and put it in the dryer with your load of laundry!  It will make your whole load of clothes smell like lavender!)

Get some hot water going and a tea cup for your favorite bedtime tea!  For the ultimate Lavender bedtime experience I would use Traditional Medicinals Chamomile Lavender tea (yum!)  I usually get my tea ready before my bath or shower so it can steep and be ready for me to drink afterwards.   I use a thermos style mug with a lid so it stays warm.

When you’re ready for your shower or bath, grab your Field Better Soon Chunk Bar from Perfectly Posh.  I love this chunk bar so much!  It’s a BIG, vegan bar of soap made with Palm Kernel Oil, Glycerin, Lavender essential oil, lavender flowers, and oatmeal.  I don’t leave mine in the shower or edge of the tub, it will last longer if you take it out and store it in a cool dry place between uses.  In the shower or bath, I use a Shower Pouf sponge with the chunk bar and it makes SO MUCH foamy lather!  Wash from head to toe including your face and let the lavender and oatmeal soothe and calm the skin while the relaxing aroma helps calm your senses.  Your skin wil be so soft and nourished from this amazing chunk bar.  If you shave, you can use the chunk bar for that too!  Just use the lather from the soap instead of shaving cream and you’ll get a nice smooth shave every time.

If you are taking a bath and not a shower, check out these Lavender Bath Bombs hand made by yours truly!  With nourishing mineral oil, and skin softening epsom salts this bath bomb makes your bath water silky soft.  Loaded with pure Lavender Essential Oil and some glitter just for fun, this takes your Lavender bath experience to the next level!

If you have a favorite lavender scented shampoo and conditioner, you could add that to this routine too.  I love layering on the lavender scent in every possible way, so that’s just an idea if you are going for the Ultimate Lavender experience!  If you don’t have that, just use your regular shampoo and conditioner.

The next step comes after your shower or bath, but before you dry off! Good Hydrations In Shower Body lotion is a really unique moisturizer!  It is a lotion that works best when applied to wet skin!  Did I mention it is Lavender scented?  This concentrated and thick body lotion has coconut oil, argan oil, shea butter, and lavender essential oil to nourish your skin and lock in all the moisture from your bath or shower.  The warm water has opened up your pores to let all the goodness in, so grab this lotion before you grab your towel!  Smooth generously all over for baby soft skin and another blast of lavender aromatherapy – you’ll feel pretty close to lavender bliss at this point!

Now you can grab your towel and dry off, dry your hair  (I blow dry my hair so I don’t get cold in bed with wet hair) and put on your favorite pajamas you had selected.  Mine are a lavender purple fleece pair of pajamas and yes, I am that person who wants to wear the color lavender to match the lavender scent of my pampering night!  Once you are dry, you’ll want to make sure you pamper your face with a nice face creme or moisturizing oil, since the Good Hydrations was a body lotion but not a face lotion. A face moisturizer is a great compliment to your daily face care rourtine as it helps improve elasticity, prevents premature aging, keeps the skin on your face from drying out, and actual helps balance the natural oils in your skin to prevent acne and correct overly oily skin.   Night & Day You Are The One is an amazing vegan facial moisturizer with Aloe Vera, Lavender essential oil, glycerin, and olive oil.  You can smooth just a tiny amount of this on your face before bed and let those healing ingredients do thier work while you sleep! Or you might like Call It A Night Nighttime Face oil.  This face oil is a blend of essential oils and botanical extracts perfectly blended to create the perfect gentle overnight moisturizer for the delicate skin on your face.  With ingredients like Evening Primrose oil, rosemary, lime, lavender, jojoba, ginger root, and sunflower seed oil, a small amount of this oil spread over your face before bed will soak into your pores overnight for extra smooth, healed skin in the morning.

Now you’re all Lavender blissed out and probably feeling cozy and relaxed, ready for bed!  Your tea is waiting for you, and your bedroom should be filled with nice lavender scent from the incense or oil diffuser you started before your shower.  Here is just one more thing you might like to use before you crawl into bed (I actually like to keep mine right next to my bed!)
It’s the Sleepy Sleep Skin stick!  This is a solid lotion bar of shea butter, beeswax, and Lavender Essential oil.  You can slide the stick over any dry patches of skin, on the bottoms of your feet, on your pulse points, over your forehead and temples, or on your chest.  The lavender scent will slowly release with the warmth of your body, and it will soak into your skin to soothe away muscle pain, dry skin, and help you relax even further down into a peaceful night’s sleep.  You can also apply the skin stick during the day any time you are feeling anxious and just need a little lavender to help calm you.  Great for kids and babies too, as a safe and natural lotion to hep them relax before bed or a nap.

Crawl into bed with your tea and your book, and enjoy the time that you are feeling so relaxed before you drift off to sleep!
* I do hope you will try out some of these products (or go “ultimate” and try them all)!  You deserve to have a night of pampered Lavender Bliss, and with these products you could have a great many nights like this one!  Orders from Perfectly Posh help support me directly too – as an independent consultant I get paid a commission for your orders!  This is used for regular life stuff like helping me pay the bills and feed the kids, so that’s another way reason you can feel good about this purchase!  Just make sure you use the links provided in this blog post, and it should show “Wendy McDowell” as your consultant on the Posh website!  You also support me directly with orders from my Etsy shop (such as the bath bomb listed above)

Get Rid of Clutter With Mercury Retrograde

Welcome to the Mercury Retrograde Decluttering Challenge!  Sign up for free HERE to join the mailing list!   Then you’ll just check your email daily for a short email that will describe your challenge for the day!  For your Decluttering Challenge you will just need 3 things:

  • A Trash bag
  • A box for items to donate or sell
  • A box for things you need to put away somewhere else

Each challenge will simply outline or give ideas for a space in your home to declutter.  You can do the area that is suggested, or you can choose a different area of your home to work on.  You’ll do best if each area is broken down into smaller sections, so instead of “The Desk”, you’ll choose “The top desk drawer” etc.  Then with each small area, you will take your trash bag and two boxes, and you will go through the items in that area.  You will either keep them where they are, or decide to throw them away or donate/sell them.  Some things you will find that you need to keep, but they don’t belong in this area.  You will put them in the other box to be put away somewhere else.  You can take anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes going through this area and putting things in the boxes or bags.  When you are done, take the trash bag to the garbage, and take the donation box to a closet or storage area.  (By the end of this Mercury Retrograde challenge you should have a large box or two for donations or a yard sale!)  Then you will take the third box and walk around your home putting those items away in places they belong.

Don’t overthink it!  As you go through each area, don’t spend too long thinking about the things you find.  A simple Three questions for each thing you find should be:

  1. Does it belong here?
  2. Is it useful? (does it work, do I use it?)
  3. Do I love it?

If you don’t answer yes to all three questions then it goes in the trash bag or one of the other two boxes.

If you don’t need to declutter in the space I suggest for a certain day, you can choose a different area to work on.

After you finish, feel free to share your progress with me on Instagram!  Use the hashtag #MercuryRetrogradeClearMySpace and tag me @hestiasmuse

Spring Cleaning for Witches & Pagans

Confession time: I hate cleaning house.  Or at least, I hate cleaning house when it is just for no other purpose but to clean the house.  I need a better reason to clean, which is why I have found creating rituals and building a spiritual practice around my housework makes it much more rewarding.  When I remind myself that there are energetic and spiritual benefits to doing these “chores” I am much more likely to get them done.  So here I will share with you a few key concepts and ideas that help motivate me when it comes to Spring Cleaning.

With the season of spring comes a refreshed energy vibration that often leaves many people feeling the need to start new projects and ventures.  As a Pagan observing the Wheel of The Year, the Spring Sabbats such as Imbolc and Beltane can fill my mind with sometimes lofty dreams about my goals for the future.  After months of rain and cold weather, I will often feel like I am waking up from a long slumber – and I’m suddenly hyper aware of the state of my house.  Where did all this stuff come from?

Connect With Your Ancestors.  The sudden need to purge and refresh the home isn’t new or modern.  “Spring Cleaning” is a practice that can be traced back many years to our ancestors of almost all cultures.  The tendency towards hoarding and saving things in your home can probably be traced back to some basic survival instincts of our ancestors,  along with the process of then emptying out the store houses and preparing the home for busier spring and summer work projects.  Opening up the shutters and letting in fresh air was a welcome change after long and dark winter months.   Use your time cleaning to intentionally connect with your ancestors and the changing of the seasons, embracing the time of spring as a time to refresh, renew, and bless your living space for future months.

Removing Stagnant Energy.  Energy flows freely throughout your home and while smudging with sage or other energetic clearing practices can be beneficial, just the act of moving things around can help break up stagnant energy.  You’ve probably spent more time indoors during the winter, and remnants of your shifting moods have gotten “stuck” on objects around your home.  Piles of clutter can create something like a black hole or vortex of negative energy. Need to change the energy in a room?  Straighten up, get rid of some clutter, and move at least 7 things around the room to different locations.  (for example try the lamp on the other side of the desk, move some pictures on the walls to different places, and move your favorite decorative cat to a different location in the room.) You will immediately feel a shift in the energy flow in that room.  Follow up with some smudging with sage and the ringing of a bell to help purify the space.  If the room needs a BIG energy shift, rearrange the furniture and get rid of as much clutter as possible.

Ritualize a Cleaning Project. You may have that one project you have been putting off: cleaning out the closet or the desk drawers that have just become a place where stuff gets shoved when no one wants to put it away or knows where to put it.  Try to look at this project from a different perspective.  What do you wish this space could be used for?  Do you want your desk to be a place where you work on your home budget, homework, or running your small business?  Set this as your intention.  Now, which God or Goddess do you want to call on to help you with this goal?  Is there a certain Deity you will work with if you are a student, or one that you will call on to help your business be more successful?  Gather the tools and offerings you will need to work with this chosen Deity and then create a ritual around the work you will do.  In many cases, the work itself can be the offering – as you spend your time cleaning this space and turning it into a more effective space for its chosen purpose, this work is your devotional offering to your chosen Deity.  (If it is cleaning a child’s bedroom, you may wish to work with a Mother Goddess such as Demeter.  For a couple’s master bedroom maybe a God or Goddess of Love would be chosen, etc.)  Once you have gathered your supplies and created your ritual, you can cast your circle as usual, expanding the circle to include the space you will be cleaning.  Then just go about your cleaning project, staying mindful and focused on your intention and devotion while you work.  Try to remove anything that doesn’t fit with the intended purpose of this space.  If the project will take more than one day, just close the circle each time you are done for the day, and open it again when you have time to continue.  When you have completed your project, devote the space to your chosen Deity and ask them to bless the space for it’s intended purpose.  This may also help motivate you to keep the area clean and clutter free as it is now more than just a desk or a bedroom, but also serves as a shrine and an area with a purpose.  Perhaps decorate the area with an object that is related to this Deity in some way as a visual reminder of the work you have done to honor them and the blessing you have asked for.

I hope these ideas have you excited for taking on your Spring Cleaning projects (though they are certainly not limited to the spring season and can be implemented at any time!)

Deck Review – Mythical Creatures Oracle

This week I used The Mythical Creatures Oracle card deck by Sky Cybele for my Card of The Day readings.

I am finding this deck to be very fun to use, as the cards help predict and explain certain energies in a divinatory aspect, but also help in learning about Mythical Creatures!  If you have an interest in Mythical creatures from many different cultures, this deck is a fantastic learning tool as each creature is described in terms of myth origin and includes the common stories or tales that involved each creature.  I think this deck would be a great way for children and adults to learn about Mythical creatures even if you don’t use it as a divination tool.  My 11 year old son is particularly fond of this deck as he likes to look at the cards and pick one creature to learn about.  Included are all of the mythical creatures you are already familiar with, plus many creatures you have probably never heard of!

The deck comes in a very sturdy and beautiful box which will not only protect the cards, but is a nice display on your coffee table or altar, or fits easily on a book shelf.  The companion booklet is very detailed 160 page manual that is great for using as a quick reference guide or for reading in more detail depending on how much time you have or how much detail you want.  It includes chapters on how to meditate with the mythical creatures, mythical creatures as totems, how to use the deck for divination, and working with mythical creatures and monsters.

Using this deck for a card of the day, I found it to be very accurate and helpful in helping me navigate some energies throughout each day.  For example on Friday my card of the day was The Harpy – generally signifying a person who is combative, destructive, or negative in some way.  I did encounter a “Harpy” on Friday, but since I was aware of this from the beginning of the day I knew that engaging with or confronting this person wouldn’t be helpful.  Instead, I distanced myself from them and tried not to take things personally.   On Thursday I had Cereberus, bringing awareness in terms of my personal boundaries and protecting myself energetically.  This card was significant for me that day as I did have an experience in which I needed to create a boundary between myself and a negative person.  I had resisted creating a boundary because this person is special to me and I care about them…. but because of this card I realized that my own self care needed me to unfriend this person on facebook.  Having Cereberus as the card of the day reminded me that sometimes setting boundaries is the healthy thing to do.
Not all of the creatures are “negative” as some might see the Harpy and Cereberus as (those cards aren’t necessarily “negative” if you allow their messages to help you in a positive way) and some creatures symbolize good luck or fortune.  I did have the fortuitous Eastern Dragon one day this week, and while I didn’t hit the lottery, I did have a good day and felt very supported as I explored different ways that I am wealthy and lucky.

Using this deck for a more detailed multiple card reading can be very enlightening too.  I think it would best be used to examine energies in relationships or current situations  – as a way of understanding what energies are blocking or supporting you.  If you use the deck frequently and develop a basic understanding of the stories and energies behind each mythical creature, using the deck will become more intuitive.  If you are unfamiliar with the mythical creatures featured in the deck you will probably need the book as reference, though you can still probably gather some intuitive feelings and impressions just from the pictures on each card.

All in all this Oracle Card Deck is beautifully illustrated and well explained, resulting in a deck that is fun and easy to use both as a divination tool and a learning tool!  If you are interested in buying this deck for yourself, check it out on Amazon —>>  https://www.amazon.com/Mythical-Creatures-Oracle-Sky-Cybele/dp/0764348191 (Totally worth it!!)

Thanks for reading!

Moon Journey With Tarot – Aries 3/27 – 4/25

We’re coming up on the New Moon in Aries on March 27th/28th and I wanted to share a look at this upcoming moon cycle.  Astrologically, the solar year begins when the sun enters Aries, the first sign of the zodiac.  The sun entering the New Year is the first day of the Vedic New Year as well. (This year the sun entered Aries on March 21 and it will soon be followed by the New Moon in Aries on March 28th.
As the earth awakens from her long winter slumber, now is a time for new beginnings.  Did your new year’s resolutions in January quickly fade away?  Now is a time to re-evaluate those goals and start anew.  You can look back on what didn’t work, and then breathe new life into those goals, or reframe them in a more suitable way.  Then get ready to breathe new life into those goals on the New Moon of April 26th!

When the Moon is in Aries, it is a great time for magic or rituals concerning matters of the self and your personality, beginnings of things and personal empowerment.  In the Tarot, Aries is embodied by The Emperor, who is a commanding authority figure with great confidence and wisdom.  The New Moon in Aries is an opportunity for us to connect with our own self-mastery or find ways to take control and be a leader of our own destiny.  The Emperor reflected in this New Moon can teach us to be Rulers of our own life; taking responsibility for our actions, being assertive when needed, and leading by example.

You can meditate or journal with this card or on archetypes of Aries to see what parts of your life you need to step into your power – or what areas you perhaps need to relinquish some power (A good Emperor knows he cannot control everything and everyone, but allows individual freedoms within his kingdom and delegates tasks or jobs to others).  Your intentions for this New Moon should be centered around ways you can find your own courage and strength to take charge of your life in new ways and access your inner fiery Mars energy.

Moving forward with the Waxing Moon, we find the First Quarter Moon in Cancer around April 3rd.  As the moon builds and grows more each night on it’s way to the full moon, our intentions from the New Moon are moving forward along with it.  At the First Quarter Moon we hit a sort of waystation between New Moon and Full Moon.  Here we find some balance as Cancer brings her watery and feminine energy in to temper some of that Aries fire.  Moon in Cancer is a good time to focus on matters of family, home life, and maternity issues such as fertility, nurturing, creativity and fertility.

The tarot card related to Cancer is The Chariot – which interestingly has a lot of Mars type energy in it too in the sense of determination, drive, and motivation.  Our chariot driver may be a warrior, but he is driven more by his emotions and instincts – rather than the hard control of the Aries Emperor.  At this time it is beneficial to ask yourself how you feel about the direction you are going, and let your creative and intuitive aspects take the reigns from here to the Full Moon.  You still have your goal and intention set at the New Moon, but now rather than pushing for this goal with strength and courage, you can more easily “go with the flow”.  Step out of your own way, and trust in the process – remembering that the journey is just as important as the destination.

April 10th brings the Full Moon in Libra- the astrological opposition of Aries.  While Aries is about Personal power and individuality, Libra is all about Partnerships and matters that involve other people.  Agreements we have made with others come under scrutiny as the light of the moon is shined down upon them, particularly highlighting places that lack balance or justice.  Your intentions from the New Moon will be manifesting here at the New Moon if you have worked on them and taken actions to bring them to fruition.  However, the Libra Full Moon will point out any imbalance in the power structure you have created, and urges you to make sure that your goals didn’t just benefit YOU – but also the whole and the greater good.  Libra is personified in the Tarot with the Justice card, who weighs the scales.  If you feel you have been knocked off your horse during this full moon, take some time to honestly look at your goals and the journey from the New Moon to the Full Moon.  If you stepped on anyone or upset the balance along your way, now is the time to right those wrongs.  Continue with your intentions and goals of the New Moon, integrating the lessons of Libra and Justice to bring about a more sound and sustainable outcome.

As the moon wanes and approaches darkness, it is a time of letting go of that which no longer serves us.  What have you learned in this moon cycle so far?  Manifesting isn’t just about attracting good into our life, but also letting go of the old in order to make room for the new.  On April 19th we encounter the waystation of the 4th quarter moon in Capricorn.  Earthy, wise Capricorn brings a big dose of practicality to the picture.  Think back to New Year and the resolutions we made at that time (The New Moon was in Capricorn just before January 1st).  What happened to those resolutions?  At this time with the Waning moon we can look at what has held us back and take steps to release those habits or attitudes that don’t serve us.  The moon in Capricorn particularly highlights aspects of life involving work or career, work ethic, and status.  Who or what is supporting us in our journey?  What can we do to prop up or give a signal boost to those things or people who help us?  What or who is holding us back, tripping us up, or causing us to lose our focus on the end goal?  What can we do to eliminate those from our life?  The World really is at our fingertips, and we need careful discernment and deliberation to decide exactly what we need and what we don’t need.  The lessons of The Emperor, The Chariot, and Justice can help us in this discernment process.

Finally, April 24th and 25th, we come full circle.  The Dark Moon (final stage of waning moon before the New Moon) is in Aries again.  Here we can encounter the shadow aspects of The Emperor.  What have we learned about power, control, and strength that made us uncomfortable?  Do we feel that we were successful in manifesting our goal at the New Moon?  Did you access your own inner Emperor, that Fiery Mars persona within you?  Did you find aspects of your life that needed this energy?  Did you find aspects of your life that resisted this energy, or needed balance and less control?  These are all things to consider as your meditate or journal through the Dark Moon.  Another New Moon is approaching and you will set a new goal – this new goal will be shaped by what you learned during this journey as well as the astrological influences of that coming cycle.

I hope you revisit this post often through this coming Cycle, and I look forward to hearing back from you as you process and experience this in your own way! If you want to really get in touch with Aries and Mars energy, I made these ARIES Astrological Bath Bombs!  They are reddish in color, like Mars.  The scent of Geranium Essential oil is both relaxing and mood lifting, promoting courage and vitality.  (Geranium are red flowers associated with Aries and Mars.  Inside of each bath bomb is a Carnelian gemstone which can be added to your altar or carried in your pocket to promote courage, self confidence, and vitality.  ORDER HERE.

Deck Review: Healing With The Fairies Oracle

This past week on Facebook and Instagram I used the “Healing With The Fairies” oracle card deck for my card of the day posts.  I have had this deck for many years, I think I got it as a gift in 2005 or 2006!  It has been a steady companion for many personal readings in that time.

“Healing With The Fairies Oracle Deck”, by Doreen Virtue is a Hay House Publication and features artwork by Jeffrey Bedrick, Amy Brown, Nancy Chien-Eriksen, Gail Gastfield, Kylie InGold, Christine Kloss, Karen Krangel, Diana Stanley and Corey Wolf. There are 44 cards in this deck, plus a guidebook with meaning of the card and an affirmation for each card.

The beautiful artwork and name of each card makes it very easy to use intuitively without the guidebook, though I love looking at the guidebook for additional guidance and the suggested affirmation for each card!  My favorite way to use this deck is with a simple 1 card drawing such as for a card of the day or to ask what advice the fairies have for me right now.  I also enjoy using a 3 card spread such as Body, Mind, Spirit to get multi-layered guidance from the cards.

This deck is great for spiritual counselling, giving specific advice and ways to move forward to free yourself from certain patterns.  Advice in these cards is inspired by the Fairies and Nature Spirits who are playful, loving, gentle beings – and Masters of Manifestation!

I hope you enjoyed seeing some of the cards this past week on Instagram and Facebook!  If you want a personalized reading using this deck, you can order a mini reading HERE.
